McHenry Village Shopping Center

The devastating fire of 1994 destroyed the center core of McHenry Village, the oldest shopping center in Modesto. The new design for the 33,100 square foot project had to marry the still standing and functioning shops with a fresh image and current codes. The existing colonnade, soffits, and mansards were extended and varied in width, creating the theme to unite the existing with the new. The colonnade was increased in width to allow increased pedestrian walking and outdoor dining to enhance the leisurely pace and encourage shoppers to make the “Village” a complete day. The individual, unique nature of the various stores' facades allows for a high profile statement that many of today’s shopkeepers are demanding in their retail spaces, reversing the norm in the old McHenry Village. The shell was designed and constructed within six months, and all fire damaged tenant spaces constructed and occupied in a span of 18 months.  The second phase of the renovation has been to modify the remaining colonnades to reflect the new design and colors.  The recent Phillips Electric project has completed the main McHenry frontage renovations.
